sunday mornings

Children's Moment - a time during 9:30 am Online Worship to celebrate the presence of our children in Worship, and to express in a less formal way an underlying idea from the sermon, an important message for all to hear.

Sunday School @ 11am

- Learn about the Bible, life in the Church, and what it means to be a part of a Christian community.

For grades K-5th

Our program, Bible Quest, uses a rotational of workshops to enhance students' experience and growth in faith.

Each month we encounter a Bible Story using different approaches to the same story. This reinforces learning and expands our understand of how the lives of people in the Bible insersect with our lives today.  Come join us in our Journey of Faith!

Workshops include Burning Bush Studios (Movie Workshop),  Art Studio (Art), Garden of Eatin’ (Cooking and Baking), Wise Gals and Guys 'n Starry Skies (Science and Geography), Parable Players Theater (Drama), Absolutely Aaa-mazing Stories (Storytelling), and Ezekiel’s Wheel of Fortune (Games).

Not every workshop is used in each rotation.  A game rotation may be a nice way to close out the Fall learning period with fun and prizes as we see who learned the Bible stories well during the four-month semester.  Likewise, we might encounter a story where an art or cooking project is not fitting or appropriate.  Hence the variety of offerings.

Our Bible Quest class for K-5 will continue on Sunday mornings through May 21, 2023.

We will continue to have a Children's Moment in worship throughout the summer months.

mid-school donut run

"Donuts are a very healthy part of a balanced. . ." um, "a donut a day helps. . ." scratch that train of thought.  Who isn't fond of a donut or two on an early school morning?  Toss in the opportunity to sit with church friends, laugh and relax before school starts and you have a recipe for a good day at the Mid School.  Donut Run begins with young people climbing in the church van at 7am in White Rock and coming up the hill to meet the LA crew at Morning Glory Donuts at 7:20am.  We take over the dining room briefly with our bunch as we scarf about three dozen donuts and then hop into the church van for the ride to the Mid School.

High School Lunch

(Sketchy lunch)

Life in High School can be a bit challenging at times.  It never hurts to see a friendly face and share a quick bite to eat.  The goal of lunch on campus is simple. . . for me to be able to "check-in" with our kids and see how they are doing.  If I am able to see them at church, out in the community, and on campus for lunch from time to time it allows me to build a friendly relationship that allows for honest conversation.  Pizza (food in general) never hurts either.  Lunch is taken to LAHS every Thursday at the Morning Glory Bakery parking lot.

mexico mission trip

Spring Break at the United Church means one thing:
Mexico Mission!

During Spring Break 2023 - Twenty-six youth and adults traveled to Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, Mexico to build houses for two needy families.   They worked through Amor Ministries, who provided the camp facility, determined which families needed the house, and had all the building materials on site when they arrived.  Because they wanted to be back in Los Alamos for Easter, the group arranged for the concrete floor to be poured before they arrived.  The campers had four working days to frame the houses, wrap them with chicken wire, roofing paper, more chicken wire, and apply 2 layers of stucco.  The plywood roofs were sealed with a sticky paint and fibrous material.  The finished houses were 11' x 22', with a door and two windows.  The Los Alamos group had a great time working with (and playing with) the two families. At the end of the four days, the group gathered inside each house to say a blessing and give the families the keys to their new house!
